Building across disciplines

Zayden Prototype Lab is an independent engineering and fabrication studio focused on turning ideas into working physical prototypes. Mechanical design, electronics, embedded firmware, and fabrication are developed together as parts of the same system.

The work is hands-on and iterative: define the problem, build, test, learn, and refine. Keeping the major engineering disciplines connected throughout that process makes it possible to respond to constraints as they emerge and develop the prototype as a complete system.

An integrated approach

Prototype development involves constant trade-offs between function, electronics, firmware, mechanics, fabrication, and form. Rather than treating those areas as separate stages, Zayden approaches them as interconnected parts of the same design problem.

That means decisions can be evaluated in the context of the whole prototype. A change in one area can be considered alongside its effects on the others, allowing the design to evolve through practical testing and iteration.

From concept to working hardware

Projects can begin with an early idea, a partially developed design, or an existing prototype that needs further development. The goal is to identify what needs to be proven, build the hardware needed to test it, and refine the system based on what is learned.

The emphasis is on learning through the prototype itself—using real hardware, testing, and iteration to answer engineering questions and move the idea toward a more complete design.
